【管理學院AACSB認證短波】Standard 5: Faculty Sufficiency and Deployment

The school maintains a faculty sufficient to provide stability and ongoing quality improvement for the instructional programs offered. The deployment of faculty resources reflects the mission and programs. Students in all programs, disciplines, and locations have the opportunity to receive instruction from appropriately qualified faculty.

1.  Criteria for the Classification of Faculty as Participating and Supporting

The college has listed all types of administrative work that allow faculty to maintain Participating status. Participating faculty are those involved in at least one of the following activities, in addition to teaching and research, in a year:

n Administrative responsibilities that help achieve the college’s missions and goals

–   Dean of College of Management

–   Department chairs

–   Program directors

n College- or department-level regular standing committees that help to shape college or departmental policies and provide educational direction

–   College or departmental curriculum committee (curriculum planning and modification)

–   College or departmental academic affairs committee (faculty employment, promotion, performance evaluation, rewards and disciplinary procedures)

–   College or departmental student recruitment committee (student admission and recruitment promotion)

–   Departmental affairs meeting (department regulations, pedagogy, facilities, research and development)

The criteria are reviewed in the annual strategic planning and continuous improvement retreat of the college to ensure their appropriateness.

2.  Faculty Complement

n Number of Students, Number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Academic Faculty Members, and Student-to-Faculty Ratio, 2016 to 2018 (excluding Industrial Design Department).

n The average faculty teaching load in the college from 2016 to 2018.

2.1 Curriculum and Course Development

The college’s faculty members can participate in the Curriculum Committee, which operates at three levels (department, college and university). All faculty members can submit proposals for new course development. The committee members are involved in curriculum and course reviews. They also develop proposals to change the curricula or courses when the need arises.

2.2 Assessment of Learning

Every course instructor has the responsibility to conduct a course-embedded assessment for assurance of learning. Faculty members participate in rubric design and the decisions regarding the assessment method. At the end of the course, course instructors review the assessment results and submit a report with comments and suggestions.

2.3 Course Delivery

Faculty members teach courses in the area of their research expertise and educational background. The instructor of a course must enter a syllabus of the particular course in the university’s Course Management Information System before a semester begins. The course syllabus is available on the university’s intranet, providing information of the course’s learning goals and objectives, content outline, delivery schedule, text books, pre-course requirements and methods of learning assessment. To ensure continuous improvement of course quality and delivery, student feedback is collected via an online survey each semester. The aggregated survey result of each course is provided to the course instructor for his/her reference.

2.4 Academic Assistance, Academic Advising and Career Advising

Most of the college’s faculty members also serve as advisors to students. Faculty members are heavily involved in academic assistance, academic advising and career advising. Only associate professors and full professors can advise PhD students. Students can interact with their advisors beyond the classrooms. All faculty members at CGU are required to provide weekly office hours for student access. Some faculty members also participate in student associations or athletic events.
